Webhook

Maersk Visibility Studio delivers Visibility, Shipment Risk, Demurrage and Detention, and Emissions events to your server as they happen, with no polling required.

What is a webhook

A webhook is an HTTP callback: instead of your server repeatedly polling an API to check for new data, you register an endpoint URL with us, and we send an HTTP POST request to that URL containing the event payload as soon as the event occurs. This push-based model reduces latency and eliminates unnecessary polling traffic.

Webhook Configuration

For webhook-based event delivery, email the following details to MVSAPISupport@maersk.com so we can complete the configuration:

  • Your Maersk Developer Portal registered email account
  • A webhook endpoint URL for your Production environment (mandatory)
  • A webhook endpoint URL for your Staging (Preproduction) environment
  • Your Maersk customer code as specified in the contract (if applicable)
  • A cURL command example in text format, including any additional request headers, if applicable
  • Authentication method (OAuth 2.0 or Basic Auth) and credentials, if applicable
  • Your endpoint quota and spoke arrest limitation, if applicable

Your endpoint(s) should be testable and able to return a 202/200 status code for a valid POST API call.

Delivery Settings

  • HTTP Timeout: The HTTP timeout for requests sent from Maersk Visibility Studio's system is set to 30 seconds. If the target system does not respond within this timeframe, the request will be marked as timed out and placed in the retry queue. Subscribers are advised to ensure that their endpoints can process requests within this duration.
  • Retry Policy: Maersk Visibility Studio's system uses an Exponential Backoff retry policy for failed notifications. A failed message will be discarded after reaching the maximum limit of 10 retry attempts.

Try It delivery

No account or configured endpoint is needed to test webhook payloads in the docs. Use the Try It console on an endpoint that triggers a webhook — for example, the Create Tracking Request endpoint publishes a Visibility Event after a shipment journey is created — to see a sample delivery.
